Georgia WR Ladd McConkey compared to former Offensive Rookie of the Year

The annual NFL Scouting Combine offers NFL teams an opportunity to study prospects up close and personal, but it also gives analysts a chance to compare them to household names.

Sometimes those comparisons surprise, as was the case on Saturday when NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah revealed a downright stunning comp for Georgia wideout Ladd McConkey.

Few would have made the leap to compare McConkey with New York Jets budding star Garrett Wilson without being led, but it does present an interesting discussion. Height and weight cancel themselves out, but the 40-yard dash, broad and vertical jumps being all but equal, is intriguing, if nothing else.

McConkey recorded 119 receptions for 1,687 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns over three seasons at Georgia. However, following a breakout sophomore season (58 catches, 762 yards, seven TDs), he managed only 30 receptions for 478 yards and two touchdowns over nine games.

Toward the latter half of the college season, McConkey saw his draft stock slide a bit. Although, since the calendar turned to 2024, it's been on a slow and steady climb.

Ahead of April's NFL Draft, McConkey is a consensus second-round pick, but several teams late in the first round could take a look. In fact, Jeremiah believes McConkey, lauded for his "ultra-smooth" route running, would be a perfect fit with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, who own the final pick in the opening round as defending Super Bowl Champions.
