Los Angeles Kings sign goaltender Jacob Ingham to one-year, two-way contract

Some more depth between the pipes for the team in Hollywood.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Kings signed goaltender Jacob Ingham to a one-year, two-year contract that will carry through the end of this season.

The contract has an AAV of $775,000.

The signing was made possible after Ingham’s American Hockey League contract with the Kings’ affiliate, the Ontario Reign, was terminated on Wednesday.

Ingham has been immediately loaned back to the Kings’ ECHL affiliate, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, because there is no room for him to play with the Reign. Former San Jose Shark Aaron Dell was signed to an NHL deal by the Kings on Monday and placed on waivers for assignment to the AHL.

The 23-year-old started the season on a minor-league deal after not receiving a qualifying offer from L.A. at the conclusion of Ingham’s entry-level contract, which expired at the end of last season. He did not play at all during the 2022-23 campaign, as Ingham was recovering from back surgery.

Ingham has played most of this season with the Swamp Rabbits, as David Rittich started the season with Ontario before Pheonix Copley went down with a season-ending injury. Also, Dell has been playing in Ontario since January after signing an AHL deal with the Regin.

In six games with the Reign this season, Ingham is 3-2-0 with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. In Greenville, the Barrie, Ontario native is 15-6-1, with a 2.65 GAA, .916 SV% and one shutout.

Ingham is once again regarded as the no. 2 goaltending prospect in the Kings’ system, behind former Michigan Wolverine Erik Portillo, who shares the net with Dell in the AHL.

In 12 AHL games, Ingham has a career record of 6-4-1 with a 3.31 GAA and .897 SV%. During his three years in pro hockey, he has played 53 games in the ECHL, posting a 28-19-4 record, a 2.79 GAA, a .908 SV% and four shutouts.
